19th C Qing Chinese Painting Frame Hongmu Red Hardwood Openwork Screen Transom Panel
This openwork Chinese frame, made from hongmu wood, has a beautiful openwork floral pattern carved into it. The wood itself is incredibly dense and much heavier than it appears. It would have housed some kind of heavy panel before and went into a screen or some kind of larger assembly. The edge of the frame itself has ten hatch marks that indicated where this piece went into the larger assembly. It has one set of square corners and one rounded set which only makes sense as part of a larger unit. It would make an ideal frame for a Chinese watercolor or other piece of art.
