St Barbara Carved Wood Panel Circa 1550 Northern France Framed Renaissance

This panel features St Barbara holding a tower with three windows. The windows represent the Holy Trinity and her conversion to Christianity, which led to her demise at the hands of her father and eventual sainthood. The carving is a floating panel which would have been part of a larger object. It could have been in a cabinet or even possibly an entire carved room, but this is the only panel which we have. It has been framed floating in an antique gold deep cove frame with ornate detailing which is in very excellent shape. The piece floats above a black velvet ground which allows the carving to be highlighted. The panel dates to between about 1550 and 1600 and is most likely from Northern France. It is a one of a kind piece which you will find nowhere else, especially with the standout framing. The carving quality is quite good and has whimsical nature. There are some material losses in the lower left corner of the panel and some other condition issues, as pictured. That said, it looks great framed and the distressing is part of it's appeal as an object which has survived over 400 years. Do not miss the opportunity to add this unique Renaissance carved panel to your collection.
