18th C Carved Wood Beggar Couple by Simon Troger or Follower Museum Quality

This pair of museum quality wood carved beggars by Simon Troger (1683-1768), or close follower, show a different side of life from your normal statue or carving of the day. This set features a man with a sack carrying a stick and a woman collecting wood with a dog at her feet. They show the harsh realities of the lower classes in the middle of the 18th century in a way that still resonates today. They are expertly carved and feature glass eyes with incredible expressions. These pieces are in remarkable condition for their age with only the big toe on one foot of the male being broken. They include an appraisal from 2018 which lists a replacement value or $7,500.
