1952 Acrylic Painting Riders on Elephant Hardship Post Midcentury 16" x 22"
For your consideration is this beautiful mid century acrylic painting of riders on elephant back on panel. This painting features a typical scene of an explorer getting an elephant ride by a turban wearing driver on a green ground. The elephant is elaborately decorated and has the initial JKS on it's side. The piece has a note taped to the reverse title Hardship Post. It reads:
"Hardship Post
Hazardous Field Trips
Hidden dancers beset one, the terrors are rife, as one journeys to the "Boonies" at risk to his life. Extension requires many trips to the field appealing to those who are inwardly steeled to mix food crops and livestock with eternal strife.
New Dehli 1952"
We have done some basic research and "Hardship Post" may refer to a diplomatic position in a less than desirable location in the world. We have not been able to discern if the letters JKS on the elepahant have any significance. Possibly they are the intials of the artist as the piece is unsigned. This piece is full of mystery and would be a fun little project to research. On top of that, it's a pretty darn nice painting. It is framed and ready to enjoy.
